Our local area has many attractions for the fishing or hunting enthusiast. One of the favorite local fishing holes is Mickelson’s Landing, along Pool 13 on the Illinois side of The Mississippi River. Kept a secret for many years, this area has recently drawn attention from fishermen as far away as Chicago, Indiana and Ohio. A favorite haunt for the Largemouth Bass, this area is scattered with Bass boats on any given Spring or Fall day. If you enjoy pan fishing, this honey hole provides some of the best Ring Perch fishing anywhere. The Bluegill and Sunfish are also abundant here, and Crappie love the area, too.
Traveling from Route 84 between Thomson and Fulton, turn West onto Lock and Dam 13 road. Go West for a 1/4 mile, then turn right on Railroad Lane going North for one mile. Mickelson’s Landing is along the Sand Prairie Preserve to the left, just follow the signs to the river.
